CNY Memorials to the victims of Sept. 11
Sept. 20, 2001:
Following a "Stand Together Rally" of nearly 10,000 tonight in the new Clinton Plaza in downtown Syracuse, NY in remembrance of all those lost on September 11th, I watched, along with millions worldwide, the President's Address to the Nation. I was concerned by the call of local religious leaders in our community to "let the victims rest in peace" and "for us to continue our lives in peace" whilst President Bush made it quite clear we were going to war. Not that I'm violent by nature nor am I militarily based in my beliefs, but for the life of me I cannot understand how can we be asked to 'turn the other cheek' after what has happened?
Here are a few shots from a 'live cam' on Clinton Square tonight:
to the right of the monument, just above the stage, is a huge American flag suspended
by two hook & ladder fire trucks and secured by four Syracuse firemen!
